A Public Hearing That Left the Public Outside in the Cold

On November 13, outside an RWJBarnabas facility in Eatontown, hundreds of Long Branch and Monmouth County residents stood in a long, shivering line in the cold, waiting for their chance to attend what was advertised as a public hearing on the proposed relocation of Monmouth Medical Center from Long Branch to Eatontown. Elderly residents sat bundled in wheelchairs. Neighbors pressed their faces to windows, watching a hearing they could not enter. People prayed the doors would open wide enough for them — not just physically, but democratically.

Monmouth Medical Center Hearing Sparks Outrage After Residents Denied Entry, Congressman Says

Tensions escalated this week after more than 500 residents arrived to speak at a state-run public hearing on the proposed closure of Monmouth Medical Center — only to be turned away at the door according to US Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. The hearing, held inside an RWJ Barnabas facility in Eatontown, took place in a room so small that nearly every seat was reportedly filled by RWJ Barnabas employees, leaving residents from Asbury Park, Long Branch, and surrounding communities waiting outside in the cold.

Monmouth Medical Center must not leave Long Branch. NJ officials must stop it

They call it “modernization.” I call it what it is: abandonment. RWJBarnabas Health’s plan to strip Monmouth Medical Center of nearly all its vital services and move them out of Long Branch would take away the community’s safety net.

More Than 500 Attend Hearing On Moving Monmouth Medical Center's Hospital License To Tinton Falls

More than 500 people lined up in the cold to attend Thursday's public hearing on RWJBarnabas' request to transfer the hospital license from Monmouth Medical Center to a new hospital it is building in Tinton Falls.

Pallone and NJ mayors erupt over plan they say will create a ‘health care desert’

Several Monmouth County mayors, religious leaders and council members have joined Rep. Frank Pallone, D-N.J. 6th District, to help in his fight to keep Monmouth Medical Center as a full-service hospital.

Why moving Monmouth Medical Center out of Long Branch is so harmful

Don’t let RWJ Barnabas fool the public. The application is to transfer the hospital license. Whatever they keep in Long Branch cannot include services of an acute care hospital like major surgery, delivery of babies, ICU or anything that requires a hospital stay overnight for care.

Moving N.J. hospital will harm patients and hurt workers

When you are a frontline worker, your job is not just a paycheck. It is stability and the difference between keeping your family afloat or slipping under. That is why the proposal to move Monmouth Medical Center out of Long Branch and miles away to Tinton Falls is not just a bad idea for public health. It is a direct threat to the working people who keep this hospital running and to the communities who depend on it.

Pallone Blasts RWJ Barnabas Health’s Closure of Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, Calls for Community Leaders to Mobilize Against Plan

Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today announced his strong opposition to RWJ Barnabas Health’s (RWJBH) plan to move its hospital from Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch to a new hospital in Tinton Falls. The plan would move key services such as labor and delivery, acute care in-patient beds and the hospital license to the new facility in Tinton Falls leaving behind a shell of the current services.
